Harbor Area Neighborhoods

5 neighborhood guides for sellers and buyers.

The Harbor Area is the City of Los Angeles's southern tip: San Pedro on the peninsula with its coastal bluffs and historic Vinegar Hill, Wilmington and the Banning Park HPOZ, Harbor City around Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park, and the Harbor Gateway strip that connects it all to the rest of the city. Housing is 1920s to 1960s single-family on standard lots, with ocean-view homes in San Pedro and new townhome development near the waterfront. Measure ULA, the 9A report and City rules apply; Torrance, Lomita, Carson and Rancho Palos Verdes next door are separate cities.

Harbor seller questions

Is San Pedro part of Los Angeles?

Yes. San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City and Harbor Gateway are neighborhoods of the City of Los Angeles, connected to the rest of the city by the Harbor Gateway strip. City transfer taxes, Measure ULA and the 9A report apply to sales there, unlike in neighboring Torrance, Lomita, Carson and the Palos Verdes cities.

What sells well in the Harbor Area?

Ocean-view and bluff homes in San Pedro, updated Spanish and Craftsman homes in Vinegar Hill and the older San Pedro grid, and well-kept single-family homes near Harbor Regional Park and the Banning Park HPOZ.
